During the 70’s Joni Mitchell and Norma Winstone were great musical and vocal influences and she was involved with playing avant-garde music for a while at college in Salisbury. In 1980 Lindsey found herself in a rhythm and blues band recording and performing in the West Country as well as doing a short tour in Holland.
In 1985 she returned to her jazz roots and formed a five piece band called “Mood Indigo”. It was a young vibrant jazz outfit and they were determined to play standards with a difference. With Lindsey’s strong vocals, her talent for phrasing every song just right and her intelligent choice of material, the band went from strength to strength. They developed a large west country following and fans would travel throughout the county to hear them play. During that time she also worked with a dance band in Bristol as well as sitting in with various well known and respected Bristol and Bath musicians.
In 1990, family life took over and she gave up performing for a while. Now in 2008, with the family grown up, it’s time for her vocal chords to be set free again.
Her voice has matured and It’s softer and more emotional. It’s deeper and richer and the sound is very sophisticated. She’s writing her own material and her lyrics are intelligent and heart warming, her melodies haunting and unforgettable. Her style is very intimate as she invites you into her world of imagination and words. You don’t expect to be mesmerized but suddenly you are. Suddenly you’re taken in by the snakey understatement of the music and the smooth tones of her colourful voice.
With husband Stash Huchrak on double bass and Simon Gardner on guitar, Lindsey is ready to let us know that there is life beyond the surface
